Dilbeck in the Details

About: Charles Dilbeck was a beloved architect who designed around 225 to 300 homes in the Dallas area (and other cities like Tulsa, Oklahoma) between the 1920s and the late 1960s. His style is often described as eclectic and whimsical, and his homes usually display elements such as irregular rooflines, round masonry columns, bay windows and real shutters. This year’s tour will display four unique homes and gardens located on Stanhope and Shenandoah streets in University Park. The tour benefits the Dilbeck Architecture Conservancy, a group of fans affectionately known as “Dilbeckians,” who are passionate about preserving the architect’s work.
Turtle Creek Association Tour of Homes

About: Find a group of four distinct architecture styles including a stunning Spanish Colonial, a 1940s cottage-style property, a restored 1920s traditional and a modern high-rise condo in the Howard Meyer-designed 3525 Turtle Creek Condominiums. For ease, the tour offers a shuttle bus that takes you from property to property, all within the exclusive Turtle Creek neighborhood. The tour benefits the TCA, which preserves, protects and enhances the Turtle Creek corridor.
AIA Dallas Tour of Homes

About: This two-day, self-guided tour is a must-stop for architecture buffs. All eight homes in this year’s lineup were designed by AIA Dallas architects and selected by their esteemed peers. Find a wide range of price points, square footage and styles (like a modern hacienda and a net-zero energy home) in neighborhoods that span around Dallas such as Preston Hollow, Turtle Creek, the Urban Reserve and Kessler Park. The VIP premiere party takes place at a stunning property in Lakewood and includes live music, passed hors d’oeuvres, an open bar and conversations with the tour architects.
Heritage Oak Cliff Tour

About: Tour seven homes in seven different neighborhoods in Oak Cliff, including Kessler Park, Kiestwood Estates and Kings Highway. The featured properties include styles from Craftsman to midcentury modern that were built from 1923 to 2024. Tour goers will also have a chance to tour Proxy Properties’ East Dock development, where the history of the 1915 warehouse will be presented, as well as the “Little Blue House” in the Tenth Street Historic District, one of the nation’s oldest intact Freedmen’s Town. A hard hat tour will also feature the last commercial property standing in the Tenth Street district. Proceeds benefit the Oak Cliff neighborhoods.
Lakewood Home Tour

About: This beloved East Dallas tradition is now in its 49th year. Tour beautiful residences in the Lakewood neighborhood, which is known for its architecturally significant homes as well as gorgeous new builds. This year’s tour features six stops, plus a bonus property featured on Saturday’s candlelight tour for those who were lucky enough to score a ticket. Expect to see a 1920s Dines & Kraft, a 1930s California-style and a 1975 eclectic French contemporary among the homes. Proceeds from the tour benefit the neighborhood’s Dallas ISD feeder pattern schools.
Kips Bay Decorator Show House

About: Every fall, the local design community excitedly awaits the unveiling of the Kips Bay Decorator Show House. Now in its sixth year in Dallas (there are also locations in New York and Palm Beach), the popular event will return to last year’s site at 2999 Turtle Creek Boulevard. An impressive roster of 25 national and local designers and architects will transform every room of the 25,000-square-foot building. The Show House supports the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club, Dwell with Dignity and the Crystal Charity Ball.
