Why go? Who says you need an instrument to play live music? Famous for using metal trashcan lids as cymbals (suitcases as kick drums, stiff bristled brooms, and even industrial sinks), Stomp has been part of the popular culture since back the early ‘90s, and now this dancing drumline is stopping in DFW on a national tour. Mochitsuki New Year’s Celebration
Where: Crow Museum of Asian Art at UT Dallas, Richardson
When: Sunday, January 11, 2–5pm
Why go? For all your kids addicted to mochi desserts, here’s a way to show them how mochi is made in the traditional Japanese fashion. Join this annual party hosted by the Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth, including activities like drawing calligraphy, playing kendama (a Japanese ball game of skill) and making New Year’s greeting cards at the Nengajo station. Family Arts Bash

Why go? Enjoy a full afternoon of kids craft stations, live performances and more entertainers during this totally free party at the Kimbell. In fact, this is a great day, too, to see Myth and Marble: Ancient Roman Sculpture from the Torlonia Collection for free before it closes January 25. Dressed for the Drawing Room: Fashion in Jane Austen’s World

Why go? The AMA continues to wow with its movie costume exhibits, and this one will elicit some squeals from Jane Austen fans. Come see the spectacular costumes from two films: the 2005 Pride and Prejudice movie and 2020 Emma. What’s even better? Admission is FREE. The Little Mermaid Ballet

Why go? Does your kid have mad fishing skills? Or want to learn how to cast a line for the first time? Join up with fellow outdoorsy kids during this family-focused morning led by the park rangers.
