Who are the 10 biggest homebuilders in D-FW?

Who are the 10 biggest homebuilders in D-FW?

Dallas-Fort Worth is one of the nation’s top home-building markets.

More than 8 million people call Texas’ largest metropolitan area home, and more are moving to the region each day.

They’ve gotta live somewhere. And homebuilders are trying to keep up. The area recorded a national high of 71,788 home permits in 2024.

Research firm Zonda has compiled a list of the 10 largest homebuilders in D-FW by the number of home starts from April 2024 to the end of March 2025.

1. D.R. Horton- 15.1% market share

Arlington-based D.R. Horton is the top homebuilder in D-FW by annual starts. The firm started on more than 7,100 homes for the year.

That represents a 19% drop from the previous year’s pace.

2. Lennar - 11.3% market share

Miami-based Lennar is the region’s second-largest builder. The firm started 5,313 homes for the year ending March 2025.

That represents a 9.9% year-over-year increase.

3. Green Brick Partners- 7.1% market share

Plano-based Green Brick Partners landed in the third spot. The firm had 3,337 home starts, a 27.8% increase from the prior year.

Green Brick has made several large land purchases in northern D-FW with plans for housing developments.

The firm acquired the first phase of land for its planned Burks Ranch development in March. Green Brick plans to build 2,100 homes on roughly 570 acres north of Pilot Point in Grayson County.

4. Bloomfield Homes - 3.9% market share

Bloomfield Homes, headquartered in Southlake, is the region’s fourth-largest homebuilder.

The firm had 1,820 starts, a drop of 17.8% from the previous year.

Don Dykstra, chairman of Bloomfield Homes, previously told The Dallas Morning News that his firm ramped up production during the second quarter. However, third-quarter starts would be down 50%.

“There are some great deals for people right now,” he said. “We’re providing incentives.”

5. Highland Homes- 3.4% market share

Plano-based Highland Homes ranks fifth. The firm had 1,586 starts, down 16.7% from the year prior.

6. Meritage Homes- 3.3% market share

Arizona-based Meritage Homes is the region’s sixth-largest builder. The firm had 1,577 home starts, up 3.1% from the previous year.

7. Ashton Woods Homes- 2.8% market share

Atlanta-based Ashton Woods is D-FW’s seventh-largest builder. The firm had 1,309 home starts, up 9.7% from the year prior.

8. The Pulte Group- 2.7% market share

Atlanta-based Pulte Group is the eighth-largest builder. The firm had 1,278 annual home starts, down 25.9% from the prior year.

9. First Texas Homes- 2.4% market share

Dallas-based First Texas Homes is the region’s ninth-largest builder. The firm had 1,121 home starts, up 3.9% yearly.

10. David Weekley Homes- 2.1% market share

Houston-based David Weekley Homes is D-FW’s 10th largest builder. The firm had 987 starts, a 5.3% increase year-over-year.

Bryan Glasshagel, Zonda’s principal of homebuilding for Texas, predicts a slower end to 2025.

“With market conditions remaining choppy, we will likely see start levels trend lower for most builders as we move into the back half of 2025,” he said.
