According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, since May last year, Texas employers have created 213,300 nonfarm jobs, more than any other state. Last month alone, the good news continued with 28,100 new jobs, and the state unemployment rate remained at the low 4.1%.
Texas also reached an all-time high with a labor force of 15.2 million. And since 2020, approximately 200 companies have relocated to Texas. The population of the state is about 30 million.
Dallas-Fort Worth may surpass Chicago in a decade as the nation’s third-largest metropolitan area.
The strong economy and growing population have driven home sales to new highs. In May, there were 2,129 home sales. That’s up 10% from April and more than 7% since May a year ago, according to HomesUSA.
The state is also making it a bit easier to stay in your home. Senate Bill 4 increases the school homestead exemption to $140,000, saving the average homeowner just under $500 a year.
